“I first came to Becharof Lodge in 2007 and have returned nearly every year, since. Bruce and Lisa Hallingstad did a great job of building the lodge from scratch, and when George Joy and Mark Korpi took over as new owners in 2019, they didn’t skip a beat when it came to providing guests with the best experience possible. George has worked over 25 years in the region, and Mark’s carpentry skill have resulted in many upgrades to the lodge. I spent the entire 2020 season at Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River and can honestly say it was the most enjoyable camp I’ve ever been to in Alaska, and I’ve covered much of the state since 1990. The new staff is personable, fun, and makes everyone smile, while the veteran guides picked up right where they left off. Making my living as an outdoor author and photographer I’m particular about who I put my name behind, and Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River has my full support. It’s a place I hope to return to every summer, and continue to share with family and friends because a quality, affordable destination like this, surrounded by wonderful people, stunning beauty, and truly unique wildlife, is not common. As for the coho fishing, it’s the best I’ve seen anywhere in Alaska, and the remote flyout adventures are unmatched. Whether you’re a diehard fly angler, a bait or hardware fisherman, someone who likes fishing in solitude, or with friends & family, I recommend Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River, without hesitation.”

“I cannot say enough about Becharof Lodge. The accommodations, fishing, scenery and wildlife were off the hook! If you’re looking for world class silver salmon fishing, look no further than Becharof Lodge!”

“Our trip to Becharof Lodge exceeded all of our expectations of a fishing trip to Alaska. Camp was very comfortable and welcoming. The meals were spectacular, the warm cookies in the afternoon were delightful. The fishing is beyond what anyone could dream. The knowledgable, friendly guides ensure you will have a fantastic experience catching an abundance of salmon. We expected a good fishing trip and to meet knew people, but we left feeling rested, refreshed, happy, took home more salmon than we imagined and made new friends we look forward to fishing with again.”

“I had never been to Alaska, the promised land for fishing that I have dreamed about since I was a kid. I guide for trout, salmon, and steelhead part time in Oregon. If we get a couple big fish a day I’m pretty excited. Coho fishing on the Egegik River with Becharof Lodge was on that next level you dream about! I’m a fly fisher by heart, but I enjoy throwing hardware and bait, also. I was hoping to catch a few silver salmon on flies, then switch to spinners. I ended up throwing flies the whole time! I chose to use a switch rod after breaking my one hander on the first day. I had two days over 20 fish landed. That comes at about a 50% head-shake and gone ratio. The fishing exceeded all my hopes and dreams.
One of my favorite moments was a calm afternoon when we decided to relax on a hill for an hour and enjoy the scenery. Eating the wild blueberries that are everywhere, soaking up the moment, we watched brown bear, red fox and willow ptarmigan, Alaska’s state bird. You’ll go to Becharof Lodge for the coho fishing, but you will fall in love with Alaska, and especially Becharof Lodge and the friendly, hard-working staff. The food, the people, the tundra, it’s all great! What Becharof Lodge offers is a $10,000 experience for less than half the cost of fancy lodges in this part of Alaska!”

“The fishing was incredible, but I loved how it felt like family up here.”

“I’ve been coming to Becharof Lodge for 12 years, and this year (2020) was my best experience yet. The people, the food, and all the little changes that have taken place, really made a difference. I look forward to coming back again next year!”

“It was so relaxing, yet there was so much to do, from fishing many ways to watching brown bears.”

“Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River is hands-down the most unique fishing experience I have ever had. Coming from a state where coho salmon are known for being easily spooked and closed-mouthed, I can only attribute the ravenous behavior of these fish to the remoteness of the lodge and the complete lack of pressure from anglers and the bountiful numbers of returning chrome fish. If you have a favorite tactic, fish it, or catch them every single way imaginable by you and your guides. This is the only place in the world that I have caught all five species of salmon, in a single day, on a fly (and it was the same fly!). The staff are the hardest working family you will meet, and they make sure your experience at the lodge makes you feel welcomed, comfortable, and show you how they truly are a gem in the wilderness of the tundra. I have been here seven times, and my plan is to go every year until I am either no longer welcome or physically unable. Stop reading my story and book now, it’s a no-brainer!”

“The hospitality at Becharof Lodge was top-notch and everyone went out of their way to take good care of us. Dave was an amazing guide and a true professional the entire time. He tried his best to get us on fish, even considering the challenging conditions we faced early in the season. Great attitude and great guy! The food was delicious home cooking with generous portions. Accommodations were what was expected, as defined on the Becharof Lodge website. Our whole group enjoyed disconnecting and being out there on the tundra. We look forward to returning to fish coho on the Egegik River, hopefully soon!”
