Last August we had outdoor writer, Scott Haugen in our camp. Fourteen years ago Scott wrote an article in Salmon, Trout, Steelheader magazine on fishing for silver salmon on the Egegik River with us. The next year, Jim Matlock booked a trip with us at Becharof Lodge on the Egegik River, and he has not missed a coho season, since. This past summer, Scott and Jim finally got to meet for the first time while coho fishing at our lodge.
This is Scott’s latest column, in the December 2020 issue of Salmon, Trout, Steelheader magazine. Scott has been writing this column for over 20 years, and many STS fans have booked trips with us at Becharof Lodge, thanks to his sharing what this fabulous part of Alaska is all about. The thing we really like about this article is what it says about Jim, because just about every angler we’ve had come through camp while Jim was here, had something to say about his ability to catch salmon, even when it’s slow…and we’ve had some mighty good ones at our lodge.
